MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. (AP) _ A 6-year-old Illinois boy who was freed after being trapped under 11 feet of sand at a northern Indiana dune is expected to attend a ceremony next week honoring those who helped in the rescue effort.
 
Michigan City Mayor Ron Meer tells The News-Dispatch that two ceremonies are planned Aug. 28 for those who rescued Nathan Woessner of Sterling, Ill. He was trapped more than three hours at the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore on July 12.
 
Gov. Mike Pence is scheduled to attend a ceremony at City Hall. A second event later that day will be a city ceremony honoring the rescuers at Blue Chip Casino.
 
Woessner was hospitalized for two weeks but has recovered and started first grade on Monday.
