JAY COUNTY, Ind. (WOWO):  A 4-year-old girl underwent emergency surgery Sunday night; after she was accidentally shot in the head.

According to WISH-TV, Jay County police say the girl’s 8-year-old brother was aiming for a target with a .22 caliber rifle when she ran through the line of fire.

Jay County Capt. Patrick Wells says, “This obviously is nothing more than a tragic accident. This is a perfect example of what can happen if you take your eyes off for a second.”

The child was airlifted to Parkview North Hospital in Fort Wayne. No criminal charges will be filed.
