6-Year-Old Girl Dies in Arson Fire Near Lafayette

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP): Authorities say a 6-year-old girl has died from injuries sustained in an arson fire outside Lafayette.

Tippecanoe County Sheriff Tracy Brown says Katelyn Lane was taken to IU Health Arnett, where she later died. The fire broke out about 1 a.m. Saturday at the home of two men.

Brown says the girl's mother, Mindy Kirby, apparently left her daughter in the care Friday of one of the men who lives in the house. Brown says that man, 53-year-old David Trueblood, was taken St. Elizabeth East, where he remains in serious condition, suffering from burns and smoke inhalation.

The other resident, 33-year-old Ryan Moynagh, faces a preliminary charge of arson resulting in death. He is being held in the Tippecanoe County Jail on a $500,000 bond.
