St. Joseph County Council Votes To Block $13 Billion Data Center

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. (WOWO) — The St. Joseph County Council voted 7‑to‑2 Tuesday to block a $13 billion data center project after a marathon meeting that began at 6 p.m.

Nearly 50 residents spoke during hours of public comment, most opposing the project over its impact on about 1,000 acres of farmland along Chicago Trail.

The site sits near New Carlisle, where Amazon already runs part of its data center campus.

Many objections echoed concerns raised during Amazon’s approval process.
