Local Dancer Lands Ballet Role in Big Apple

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP): A young woman from Fort Wayne who's spent most of her life training for a career in ballet has landed a coveted spot with the New York City Ballet.

Eighteen-year-old Jordan Miller has been invited to join the group as an apprentice for its 2013 through 2014 season. Her break comes two years after she began studying in New York at the School of American Ballet.

Miller says she's thrilled by the New York City Ballet's invitation and is both “really excited and really nervous.”

As a young girl Miller wasn't convinced that ballet was the right style of dance for her.

But she says that once her mother bought her a black tutu and she'd had a few ballet lessons, she was hooked.
