LIVINGSTON COUNTY, MI (WOWO) A suspect has been arrested after Michigan State Police say a man attempted to abduct an 8-year-old girl in Livingston County’s Brighton Township.

According to Michigan State Police, troopers from the Brighton Post responded around 7:00 p.m. Thursday to the area of Rosemary Lane after receiving reports of an attempted child abduction.

Child approached while riding bicycle

Investigators say the incident began when the 8-year-old girl was riding her bicycle near her neighborhood when she was approached by a man who appeared to be going door to door as a traveling salesman.

Police initially described the suspect as a white or Hispanic male wearing blue shorts, a black polo shirt, a light green ball cap, and an identification badge associated with a pest control company.

Authorities say the suspect allegedly asked the child to follow him into a wooded area, telling her he would give her a “surprise.”

Attempt to lure child into wooded area

According to police, the suspect attempted to persuade the girl to go into the woods with him while she was still on her bicycle.

Investigators say the girl’s father intervened after being alerted to the interaction and confronted the suspect on scene, questioning what he was doing in the area.

Police say the suspect then left the location on a Segway-type vehicle before troopers arrived.

Initial search failed to locate suspect

Michigan State Police said troopers responded to the scene shortly after the report and conducted a search of the surrounding area.

Despite the initial response, authorities were unable to locate the suspect at that time.

Officials continued the investigation following the incident and issued updates through social media as information developed according to WLNS.
