GRANBY, Conn. (WOWO) — A Connecticut man is facing a charge after authorities say he shot and killed a black bear that had attacked his livestock.

According to WFSB, 39-year-old Michael Gero called emergency dispatch Friday to report that he had killed a bear at his home in Granby.

Gero told investigators he saw the bear eating one of his chickens in his yard before shooting it. He also told authorities he believed the same bear had killed his goats the previous month.

Authorities charged Gero with using deadly force to kill a bear.

He is expected to appear in court in Torrington on Oct. 9.
