Woman Dies in Marion House Fire; 4 Escape Flames

MARION, Ind. (AP) — A north central Indiana house fire has killed a woman while four other people escaped the flames.

Grant County Deputy Coroner Chris Butche says the woman was found in bed after the fire Sunday morning in Marion, about 45 miles southwest of Fort Wayne.

Marion police say the fire began shortly after 2 a.m. The four who escaped told arriving police officers that one person might still be inside. Police broke a window and yelled into the home as firefighters arrived on the scene.

The victim's name wasn't immediately released.

Police say three officers were treated for smoke inhalation at a hospital.
