UPDATE: Council Approves Legacy Panel

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): City Council has approved the creation of a panel to streamline legacy fund requests.

The committee will be made up of appointees from the mayor and council to review applications for money.  An amendment was also attached to bring the total number of panel members to nine.

Members of council want the account to last for generations to come.

Councilman Mitch Harper believes the committee will provide clear direction, generate new ideas and serve as an incentive for the future. He said, “we want to set some guidelines so when folks come forward, they have substantial funding in place from other sources so we can leverage the public funds.”

The fund has about $52 million in the bank, according a spokesman for the mayor.
