CDC Encourages “Ouchless” Flu Vaccine for Children

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): It's flu shot season and this year, health officials have a new option for children. The CDC is offering an “ouchless” nasal spray for those who want to opt out of the painful sting of the traditional needle-vaccine.

The CDC says too many young and middle-age adults are skipping the shot altogether, even though the The Food and Drug Administration recently approved a needle-free injector to deliver vaccine.

There's also some new health advice for seniors. This year, the CDC is urging people 65 and older to get a new kind of pneumonia vaccine along with their flu shot. The vaccine is covered by insurance and Medicare, usually without a copay. For the uninsured, it can cost about $30.
