FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP): Fort Wayne's Dana Axle Plant is seeking some tax relief from the city.

The Toledo-based auto parts supplier is seeking a 10-year tax abatement from Fort Wayne that would save it nearly $3.4 million in return for investing $49 million in machinery and equipment.

The Journal Gazette reports Dana Light Axle Products in Fort Wayne, filed paperwork with the city saying it expects to begin installing equipment at the plant in November.

United Steelworkers Local 903 President Tom Herendeen says the new equipment is being installed because the company based in Maumee, Ohio, landed contracts with major automakers. He says the plants work force was down to 125 workers four years ago and is at 470 now.

The Dana plant makes axles, drive shafts, transmissions and other products for light- and heavy-duty vehicle manufacturers.
