LOGANSPORT, Ind. (AP) – A candidate for an Indiana House seat has suspended his campaign after being arrested on drug charges.

Democratic Indiana House District 23 hopeful Kerry Worthingon says in a statement the arrest “is a distraction and I am truly sorry for that.”

The Pharos-Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/SCp5d4) http://bit.ly/SCp5d4) a not-guilty plea was entered in Cass Superior Court on Tuesday for the 52-year-old Logansport man on charges of dealing cocaine and possessing cocaine, marijuana and paraphernalia.
His attorney, Jim Brugh, says the timing of Worthington’s Sept. 13 arrest is “suspicious.”

Despite the campaign suspension, Worthington’s name will remain on the ballot. He’s opposed by Republican incumbent William Friend of Macy.

Worthington is accused of selling cocaine to an undercover officer from his business, Worly’s Tavern.
