Suspect Injured After Standoff With Police

FULTON, Ind. (WOWO): Around 8:14 last night, the state police and crews responded to a domestic situation with shots fired.

Officers responded to West Brown Street in Fulton on report of a domestic situation with shots being fired. As police got to the scene, Nicholas Westerhoff, was inside refusing to give himself up. A perimeter was set up around the residence as officers continued to arrive.

Negotiations with Westerhoff were tried several times but were unsuccessful. At one point, officers heard several shots being fired from inside the residence. Around 11:40 p.m, Westerhoff came to the door of the residence and started firing his weapon. To minimize the threat, officers returned fire and Westerhoff was injured during the exchange. It is unknown at this time if Westerhoff’s injury was self inflicted or by officers returning fire. Westerhoff was air lifted to a Ft. Wayne hospital in serious condition. No officers were injured during the standoff. The investigation is continuing.
