Testing Exec Expected at Legislature Study Panel

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ CTB/McGraw-Hill’s president is scheduled to defend her company before lawmakers reviewing the ISTEP troubles later this month.

CTB President Ellen Haley is scheduled to testify before lawmakers June 21. Senate Education Chairman Dennis Kruse said he spoke with Haley Wednesday.

Close to 80,000 students experienced problems last month as the state’s online test froze for up to hours at a time. School Superintendent Glenda Ritz announced Monday that the state had hired an independent contractor to review the test results.

The first meeting of the General Assembly’s ISTEP study committee will come as an independent contractor reviews the test. But Kruse said the second hearing is not planned until after the report is delivered to the state.
