Anderson Man Gets 30 Years for Exploitation

ANDERSON, Ind. (AP) _ An Anderson man who pleaded guilty to child exploitation and possessing child pornography as part of a plea agreement has been sentenced to 30 years in federal prison.

U.S. Attorney Joseph Hogsett announced Tuesday that 69-year-old James Carroll also has been ordered to pay $10,000 in restitution.

Carroll was charged last year with six counts of child exploitation and one count of possessing child pornography. According to court documents, authorities began investigating Carroll after the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department received information that a 13-year-old girl had reported child abuse to an advocacy center. Authorities said the abuse occurred after Carroll volunteered to babysit the girl after a parent died.

The girl reported Carroll had exploited her both through physical abuse and by taking sexually explicit photographs. Carroll was sentenced Friday.
