Man Spoke to Girls After Killing Their Mother

NEW CARLISLE, Ind. (AP) _ Northern Indiana authorities say a man who fatally shot his estranged wife twice in the head during an argument talked to his stepdaughters briefly before killing himself out of their view.

The St. Joseph County Prosecutor's Office said Wednesday that 42-year-old Andrew Zarobinski and 39-year-old Michelle Zarobinski of New Carlisle were separated for a significant period and were talking about divorce.

It says the stepfather went to the home about 15 miles west of South Bend about 7 a.m. Tuesday, entered his wife's upstairs bedroom and ordered her 9-year-old daughter to leave.

The girl and her 14-year-old sister heard arguing, then gunshots, and fled downstairs. The prosecutor's office says Andrew Zarobinski then went downstairs, spoke to the girls briefly and returned upstairs. The girls then heard one more gunshot.
