Court Upholds Sentence of Indiana Man in Child Death

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ A court has upheld the 60-year sentence for a southeastern Indiana man convicted of helping his girlfriend torture and kill her 12-year-old boy because they believed he had hidden their illegal painkillers.

The Indiana Court of Appeals rejected 32-year-old Waldo Jones Jr.'s claim that his sentence should be reduced by 10 years because he had pleaded guilty to murder and expressed remorse.

The ruling issued Monday says Jones only pleaded guilty to avoid a sentence of life in prison without parole.

The judges also said the “brutal and heinous torture'' of Devin Parsons in front of his siblings warranted the 60-year sentence.

Jones's girlfriend, Tasha Parsons, also was sentenced to 60 years in prison.
