Indy Officer Fatally Shoots Robbery Suspect

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – An Indianapolis police officer has fatally shot a robbery suspect who fired a gun at the officer.

Police say the shooting occurred in the parking lot outside an adult book store moments after the business was robbed Wednesday morning.

The Indianapolis Star reports a store employee activated a holdup alarm to alert police, and the officer encountered the suspect outside, deployed a stun gun, and got the suspect to the ground before the man pulled his gun and fired.

Police haven't released the names of the suspect or the officer. The officer wasn't hurt.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Chief Rick Hite says the shooting is an example of an officer being “in the right place at the right time” to protect others.
