Kokomo Heritage Trail Work Could Begin in April

KOKOMO, Ind. (AP) – Work could begin this spring on a trail through downtown Kokomo that would take walkers past some of the city's historic industrial sites.

Kokomo Mayor Greg Goodnight says he hopes the Industrial Heritage Trail will serve as a focal point for the north-central Indiana city's trails projects. The heritage trail would create an extension of its Nickel Plate Trail.

Goodnight tells the Kokomo Tribune  that Kokomo's portion of the trail will be similar to the Indianapolis Cultural Trail. The downtown Kokomo segment will feature paved brick sections, benches, decorative street lights and fencing and flower planters.

Construction of the trail could start as early as April. The city's Board of Public Works and Safety is accepting bids on the project until Feb. 26.
