Bail $310,000 for Vegas Puppy Shop Arson Defendant

LAS VEGAS (AP) _ A judge says she's troubled by a recorded jailhouse telephone call between a man arrested in Indiana and a Las Vegas pet shop owner accused with him of torching her store before firefighters rescued 27 puppies.

Las Vegas Justice of the Peace Janiece Marshall set bail Friday at $310,000 for Kirk Bills, after a prosecutor said it sounded like Bills was asking co-defendant Gloria Eun Hye Lee if she implicated him in the Jan. 27 fire.

Prosecutor Shanon Clowers says Bills crashed Lee's vehicle on the way to Crown Point, Ind., where he was arrested Feb. 7.

Defense attorney Roger Bailey says it's not clear if Bills can post bail.

Bills faces a March 10 preliminary hearing on 31 felony and misdemeanor charges including arson, conspiracy and attempted animal cruelty.
