Latest Data Shows the Number of Hoosiers Going Hungry

INDIANA, (WOWO): The latest figures are in on the number of Hoosiers going hungry and they show that the Hoosier state falls right around the national average when it comes to the percentage of Hoosiers that are food insecure.

That number is 15.7% and while that may not seem like a lot that equals up to more than 1 million people, which also includes nearly 350-thousand children. The numbers are part of the annual Map the Meal Gap which helps officials determine where Indiana needs to focus to find solutions at a local level. The study also found that more than 50% of those that are food insecure are likely eligible for nutrition assistance programs.
