LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) _ The new lawyer for a man charged with killing a fellow Purdue University student in a classroom has asked a judge to move the case to another county.
Public defender Kirk Freeman also says he's seeking funding for a mental health evaluation of 23-year-old Cody Cousins.
The Journal & Courier says a judge hadn't ruled by Monday afternoon.
Freeman contends it would be impossible for Cousins to get a fair trial if jurors were drawn from a county where Purdue is the largest employer.
He also says Cousins' statement last week that he's being treated for schizophrenia could prejudice jurors.
A judge last week allowed Cousins to get a new lawyer. He's charged with murder in the January shooting and stabbing of 21-year-old Andrew Boldt of West Bend, Wisconsin.
