Lafayette Officer Demoted for Wheelchair Force

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) _ A Lafayette police officer has been demoted for using force against a person in a wheelchair.

Chief Patrick Flannelly told the Journal & Courier for a story Thursday that the Police Department's Civil Service Commission ordered Officer Tom Davidson disciplined following an internal investigation into the Oct. 1 incident.

Davidson last week was suspended without pay for 30 days, placed on probationary supervision for a year thereafter and demoted from lieutenant to first class officer.

Flannelly said an internal investigation led to the discipline. The commission determined Davidson's actions violated department policies.

A telephone message seeking comment was left at a residential number listed in Davidson's name.
