INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ An Indianapolis community activist has been arrested on charges of tax evasion and perjury.

The Marion County prosecutor's office says 50-year-old Byron Alston was arrested Thursday. Alston is a member of the Ten Point Coalition, an Indianapolis group that combats urban violence.

Court documents filed Thursday allege that Alston hasn't filed state tax returns for four years and lied under oath about how many vehicles he owns.

A probable cause affidavit also reports other financial irregularities in another community organization called Save the Youth in which Alston was involved.

Prosecutor's office spokesman A.J. Deer says Alston pleaded guilty to criminal confinement in 2009 and received a suspended sentence.

An attorney who has represented Alston and the coalition says he has no immediate comment on the arrest.
