SHELBYVILLE, Ind. (AP): Leaders of a central Indiana hospital have approved plans for building a new $68 million facility.

The plans approved by the board of Major Hospital in Shelbyville will have it move from its current downtown location to a site along Interstate 74.

Major Health Partners CEO Jack Horner tells The Shelbyville News the new location will allow it to provide better patient care at lower cost.

Several hospital services have already moved in recent years to the new site about 20 miles southeast of Indianapolis. Construction on the project could begin next month and take two years to complete.

Horner says that when the current hospital was built in 1978 it took care of 70 percent inpatient services and 30 percent outpatient. The figures are now reversed.
