Widow of Man Whose Body Remained in Home Charged

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) _ The widow of a an 88-year-old Indiana man whose body remained in his home for nine months after he died has been arrested on nine counts, including welfare fraud and failure to report a dead body.
 
The Journal & Courier reports  55-year-old Ila Solomon was arrested Thursday and charged with three counts of welfare fraud, three counts of theft, failure to report a dead body, unlawful disposition of a dead human body, and failure to file a certificate of death.
 
Court records did not indicate she has hired an attorney. 
 
The Tippecanoe County coroner said Gerald Gavan had been dead since at least nine months when his body was discovered in May. Solomon has disputed that. 
 
She is accused of continuing to collect Social Security benefits and military pension.
