REYNOLDS, Ind. (AP) – An Amtrak spokesman says about 10 passengers and crew members have been hurt in a crash between an Amtrak passenger train and a semitrailer in northwestern Indiana.

Amtrak spokesman Marc Magliari says no one suffered serious or life-threatening injuries in Tuesday morning's crash involving the Hoosier State line in a rural area about 25 miles north of Lafayette. 

He says train carrying 56 passengers and three crew members from Indianapolis to Chicago collided with a semi that was blocking the tracks. Magliari says it's unclear why the driver disregarded signs at the marked crossing.

The Journal & Courier reports the trailer was split into two large pieces by the collision along crossing along U.S. 421 near the White County town of Reynolds.
