$300 in Candy Stolen from Indiana Police Car

SEYMOUR, Ind. (AP) _ Police in southern Indiana say someone smashed the windows of an unmarked police car and stole about $300 in Halloween candy.

The North Vernon Police Department says officers had just bought the candy and were eating lunch Wednesday at a Cracker Barrel restaurant in nearby Seymour when the theft happened.

The Republic of Columbus reports two windows were broken out on the police car. The department says a police badge and ID, a fingerprint kit and a camouflage backpack also were taken from the vehicle. No firearms were stolen.

The stolen candy was about half of what the department had expected to give away to trick-or-treaters, but officers still plan to hand out treats at the city's police station Friday evening.
