Hoosiers Toast Veterans During Veterans Day Events

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ Residents waving small American flags and holding signs thanking veterans for their service lined streets in downtown Indianapolis for the Hoosier capital's annual Veterans Day parade.

Sherry Ellis of Westfield says she brought her two children to Tuesday's parade to honor her father's Vietnam War service.

Eleven-year-old son Bronson and 8-year-old daughter Rylin smiled and held aloft homemade signs reading “Thank You For Your Service'' as cars carrying veterans rolled by during one of numerous such parades held across Indiana on Tuesday.

Before Tuesday's parade, Gov. Mike Pence thanked veterans for their service during a ceremony at the Indiana War Memorial.

Pence told the gathering he “is a son of a soldier,'' and said his Korean War vet father, like many vets, did not like to discuss his war-time service.
