Cardiac Patient Dies After SUV Hits Ambulance

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – Authorities say a patient in cardiac arrest has died after the ambulance transporting the patient was struck by another vehicle a few blocks from a downtown Indianapolis hospital.

They say the crash occurred Thursday afternoon while the ambulance was en route to Methodist Hospital.

The Wayne Township Fire Department says the crash injured two firefighters, a medic and an emergency medical technician.

The Indianapolis Police Department says the ambulance had its lights and siren on but a driver of an SUV was unaware of the ambulance and the two vehicles collided at an intersection.

Police say the patient being transported did not die as a result of the crash.
