Woman Accused of Kidnapping Baby Pleads Not Guilty

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – An Indianapolis woman accused of abducting a friend's month-old baby as part of a faked pregnancy has pleaded not guilty to charges of kidnapping, arson, theft and auto theft.

WRTV reports 18-year-old Desarai Kemp made an initial court appearance Monday before a Marion County judge.

Kemp was arrested Friday after allegedly taking the infant, a cellphone and a car from an apartment where she was staying with the baby's mother and grandmother. The mother, Juanita Gibson, says Kent befriended her at a shopping mall a few months ago and claimed she was pregnant and needed a place to stay.

Gibson says she awoke Friday morning to find a fire in her home and her son missing.
