Man in Serious Condition after Being Shot by IMPD Officer

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WOWO): A man is in serious condition after being shot by an Indianapolis Metropolitan Police officer Saturday night.

According to FOX59 out of Indianapolis, officers were called to a home on East 39th Street around 5:30 p.m., after hearing that there was a disturbance at the residence. Police responded and told that man to leave.

Around 6:00 p.m., another call came in from that same address where a woman said she had given her boyfriend his gun and that he may be somewhere in the area.

Then police received a third call to a residence on Sherman Forest Drive. The caller told police that someone was trying to get inside their home.

Once officers responded, they ordered the man to show his hands. The man did not and the officer shot him. Detectives have not found a gun, but witnesses say they saw the man reach for something. The officer also had reason to believe he was armed based on information that was received.

Police have not identified the man, other than to say he is in his 40’s. Meanwhile, an internal investigation will get underway which is standard protocol.
