State Rep. To Bring Up Religious Freedom Bill

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WOWO):  An Indiana State Senator plans to introduce a bill in the General Assembly to strengthen the states “Religious Liberty Framework.”

State Senator Scott Schneider of Indianapolis tells the Indy Star that the religious freedom bill will do a few things, including allow small businesses such as bakeries, caterers, florists, and wedding chapels to refuse service that conflicts with the owners religious beliefs. He also said it could allow agencies to refuse adoptions with same-sex couples.

After a federal judge struck down Indiana's same-sex marriage ban in June of 2014, it was understood the ruling would be further debated in the state General Assembly. It's reported the bill is modeled after the federal Religious Freedom Restoration Act passed under President Bill Clinton to protect religious minorities.
