Indianapolis Student, 16, Expelled after Gun Found in Locker

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ A 16-year-old student has been expelled from an Indianapolis charter school after a handgun was found in his locker.

WTHR-TV reports the gun and drug paraphernalia were found in a backpack at University Heights Preparatory Academy. The school's superintendent says the gun was missing parts and that it likely wouldn't have been able to be fired.

The school is scheduled to close at the end of the academic year after its charter wasn't renewed by Ball State University.
