Stray Bullet Strikes, Seriously Wounds 7-year-old Muncie Boy

MUNCIE, Ind. (AP): Police in Muncie say a 7-year-old boy was seriously wounded when he was struck by a stray bullet.

Muncie Police Sgt. Seth Stanley says the boy was playing with his 11-year-old sister and friends Wednesday evening when gunfire broke out.

Stanley says the boy thought he was hit with a BB gun and kept playing. The boy's mother saw the wound in his abdomen when he returned home and took him to the emergency room. The boy was flown to Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis.

Police say a stray bullet struck a 17-year-old boy in his thigh in the same incident. That wound wasn't life threatening.

Police say they think both victims were hit by bullets from the same gun. Police are investigating.
