Police: No Signs of Trauma on Man who Died in Custody

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – Police say an autopsy shows no signs of trauma on the body of a 19-year-old central Indiana man who died in the back of a jail transport van.

Indiana State Police Capt. David Bursten said at a news conference Tuesday evening the cause of death for Kyler L. Myers of Greenwood is undetermined pending toxicology results.

Myers died Monday after being found unconscious in a jail van that took him to Johnson Memorial Hospital, located across the street from the jail where he was being held on preliminary charges of reckless possession of paraphernalia and disorderly conduct.

A jail nurse told staff to take Myers to the hospital after he became agitated.

The Indianapolis Star reports Myers told Greenwood police he had taken a synthetic drug before his arrest.
