FREEDOM, Ind. (AP) _ Authorities say a 12-year-old Indiana boy has died after the dirt bike he was riding was hit by a pickup on a rural road.

The (Bloomington) Herald-Times (http://bit.ly/1LWMGWS ) reports Justice D. Halderman of Spencer died Sunday after he was taken to a Bloomington hospital. The Owen County Sheriff's Department says the boy was riding the dirt bike when he left a yard and went onto a road in Freedom.

The sheriff's department says the boy went into the path of an oncoming pickup, and the driver was unable to avoid hitting him.

Spencer is about 17 miles northwest of Bloomington.
