FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A proposal to split a Fort Wayne university into two separate schools unanimously failed a faculty vote Tuesday.

The IPFW Faculty Senate has rejected a report issued by a working group of IU, Purdue and IPFW representatives suggesting the college should split into separate Indiana University and Purdue University campuses, calling the plan “flawed”. The Journal Gazette reports that it only took about 20 minutes of discussion to vote the proposal down, but the move is nonbinding… the ultimate decision is still up to Indiana and Purdue University leaders. 

The report was released last week and quickly drew criticism from Chancellor Vicky Carwein, who called it “unacceptable” on educational and operational grounds.

The working group suggested a split that would see Purdue running the majority of the current IPFW campus, while IU would take over health and nursing classes.
