Kokomo Drawing Criticism Over Student Lunch Policy

KOKOMO, Ind. (WOWO): A Northern Indiana school district is getting some national headlines… and not the good kind.

In a story that's been popping up on the Today Show and Yahoo, Kokomo High School is getting some criticism after refusing to serve a full lunch to a high school senior who exceeded the district's new debt limit of $25 for lunch balances, instead giving her a sandwich of only two pieces of bread and two slices of cheese, with a serving of milk.

The district says they're following federal regulations and told parents about the new policy last year, adding that they also covered the cost of $50,000 worth of unpaid lunches last year.

While many are criticizing the district's policy, some are pointing fingers at parents who aren't paying off negative lunch account balances.
