Turkey Safety Tips From the Fort Wayne Fire Department

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): The Fort Wayne Fire Department has some tips for your Thanksgiving celebration plans.

This time of year is busy for firefighters, as the department says house fires are three times as likely to happen on Thanksgiving as any other time of year. That's mostly due to cooking being left unattended, or someone not using a deep fryer properly, either due to a lack of oil or overfilling.

They suggest using a cooking timer, turning off the stove if you leave the kitchen at all, and say if an oil fire starts, fight it with a fire extinguisher — NEVER water.
