Suspect Dies After Crashing Through Ice While Fleeing Officers

WAWAKA, Ind. (WOWO): A Noble County man wanted by police is dead after crashing through the ice trying to run from police.

At a little after 7 p.m. Thursday, Noble County deputies tried to serve an arrest warrant at a home on County Road 525 North in Wawaka.

The Noble County Sheriff's Department says 35 year old Raymond Lee Cassidy ran past the officers after they busted through his front door and ran towards the Little Elkhart River near his home. He broke through the ice trying to run over the river.

About two hours later, emergency crews were able to find his body in the water.

Cassidy was wanted on meth dealing, dependent neglect, and common nuisance charges.
