BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (WOWO): A judge has approved a mental health evaluation for a Fort Wayne man accused of shouting racial slurs and attacking a Muslim woman.

Former Indiana University student Triceten Bickford faces multiple felony counts in connection with the October 2015 attack on a woman outside a Bloomington cafe.

The Associated Press says a Monroe County Judge Tuesday approved his lawyer’s request to have Bickford examined to see if a mental illness could be the explanation behind the attack, which included him allegedly grabbing a 47-year-old Muslim woman by the neck and trying to remove her headscarf.

He also reportedly bit a police officer in the leg.
