Fort Wayne’s blight elimination program seeing progress

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): An effort by city officials to get some downtown Fort Wayne homes fixed up may be paying off.

The City’s blight elimination program has been trying to deal with some rundown properties for a couple of years now. Late last year, they put up eight homes in the West Central neighborhood for sale at steep discounts and with matching fund incentives to help buyers fix them up.

Our partners in news at 21Alive report that half of those homes now have sales pending.

The city’s Community Development department is anticipating a rush on downtown living spaces, and they’re hoping the program gains some momentum in the months to come. Find out more about the program here.
