FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Fort Wayne’s proposed annexation of 23 square miles to the north and northwest of the city limits has its fair share of opponents, and now the Allen County Public Library is among them.
According to a report by our partners in news at 21Alive, the library system will probably have to make cuts if the annexation becomes a reality, because they’ll lose $750,000 a year in tax revenues.
Library leaders say the annexation will impact their whole system, not just branches in the annexation area, and that means making cuts across the board. One proposal is to fire about 30 full time staffers.
The Fort Wayne City Council will vote on the proposal later this year.

I liked growing up in Fort Wayne. One of the highpoints was the Allen County Public Library (ACPL). I spent time at the ACPL last time I was in Fort Wayne.
I live in Seattle, and I mentioned last Saturday to a visitor about the ACPL and its genealogical library. Instead of development for the river with restaurants, etc., why not kept an organization that is educating and promoting freethinking. (Will tourism dollars be generated to pay for this development?) I would cut the city budget –especially the Economic Development where new industry is brought to Fort Wayne. Is there new industry in Fort Wayne?
