Northern Indiana man claimed to have explosive vest

GOSHEN, Ind. (AP): A northern Indiana man claiming to wear an explosive vest when stopped by police has been arrested on a charge of unauthorized possession, manufacture, or distribution of a destructive device.

Goshen police say 45-year-old Sherman Fuller of Goshen was taken into custody Wednesday morning.

Police say when Fuller was pulled over on a traffic stop about 12:30 a.m., he was wearing a vest with wires coming out of it and claimed it might contain a bomb. Officers eventually convinced him to leave his pickup truck with the vest left behind, and a bomb squad disarmed the device after about 90 minutes.

It’s not clear why Fuller was wearing the vest.

U.S. 33 through Goshen was closed for several hours but has since reopened.
