FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A man is dead after a shooting early this morning in southeast Fort Wayne.

The Fort Wayne Police Department says they were called to the 3400 block of McKinnie Avenue, a couple of blocks east of McMillen Park Golf Course, at about 1:35am for a car crash. When they got there they found a man sitting in the driver’s seat of a car, suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A woman who was inside the vehicle with the man at the time of the shooting says someone walked up to the vehicle while they were sitting in it and opened fire, hitting the man a few times. He tried to drive away but ended up crashing into a tree. The shooter fled the scene.

The woman suffered minor injuries in the crash.

The victim’s name has not yet been released.
