EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) – The University of Southern Indiana’s nursing school is getting more than $2 million in federal grants to improve health care in underserved areas.

The Evansville Courier & Press reports that the school’s Nursing and Health Professions Dean Ann White says the money comes from the federal health Resources and Services Administration.

Of the money, $1.7 million will be used over three years to implement a primary care and mental health integrated model that will span parts of Indiana, Kentucky and Illinois.

A $350,000 grant will be spent on a program to train the school’s students who are pursuing advanced nursing degrees.

The school was one of 17 recipients of grant money in the United States.
