INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ An Indiana commission is set to vote on a liquor license sought for a revamped and privatized pavilion at the Indiana Dunes State Park.

The state Alcohol & Tobacco Commission is scheduled to consider Pavilion Partners’ license request during its Tuesday meeting in Indianapolis.

The group’s project will refurbish the pavilion to bring restaurants, a rooftop bar and a banquet center to the site along Lake Michigan near Chesterton, about 40 miles west of South Bend.

Opponents contend it’s a sell-off of public land that should be free of commercial interests.

Porter County officials voted last September against granting Pavilion Partners a liquor license. But a state law passed this year allows the Department of Natural Resources to obtain alcohol permits for its parks without most usual requirements.
