Fort Wayne-built weather satellite camera having issues

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A weather satellite camera built in Fort Wayne for NOAA and NASA is having a rough debut.

The Advanced Baseline Imager was built for a spacecraft that monitors weather data in the Western U.S. by Harris Corp.’s Fort Wayne plant, but it’s got a problem with its cooling system, according to the Journal Gazette.

The problem, discovered three weeks ago, means that the camera underperforms for about a half a day, every day, due to warmer-than-expected conditions caused by sunlight hitting the equipment in space.

Officials say it could take months for engineers to fix the problem.
