FDA approves EpiPen generic

WASHINGTON, D.C. (WOWO): The Food and Drug Administration has approved the first generic version of the EpiPen and EpiPen Jr.

The auto-injector for the emergency treatment of allergic reactions, including those that are life-threatening, was approved by the FDA yesterday. An FDA press release says it’ll mean more access to lower-cost, safe and effective medication that will also help protect against potential drug shortages.

Recently EpiPen maker Mylan has faced criticism for a price hike that saw the cost of two EpiPens shoot up from around $60 to just over $600. There’s no word yet on what the generic version will be priced.
